What does each type of nanny do?

Maternity Nurse is one of the most essential nannies to have when talking about newborn babies. Even from the pregnancy, maternity nurses provide care for the mum and attend to all her necessities, both in a hospital or home setting.

Newborn babies have physical characteristics far from those of toddlers. They have very sensitive skin with stork bites or rashes or reddened areas around their foreheads, body or on the back of their necks which usually come and go during their first few weeks. The infant’s head will also have soft spots on top where bones are still growing together which will close completely after 2 years. The newborn baby will also have fussy periods and crying is their only way of communication, maybe because they need food, when they’re uncomfortable or in pain, or when they want to be held by their mother. The parents could often comfort their baby easily but there will be times where their crying would be impossible and they might feel like nothing will ever work.

This is why you will need the capable hands of maternity nurses. Our maternity nurses look after the baby and the newborn’s special needs whilst taking care of all other nursery duties like bathing, changing and feeding, sterilising bottles, as well as the laundry of the baby’s clothes.

The maternity nurse will also monitor both the mother’s and the baby’s health whilst under their care. Instructions and counsel will also be relayed to the mother. Our maternity nurse receives the market rate of £15 to £22 per hour for a live out, and £1000 to £1500 per week for a live-in position.

If the family needs a nanny who could stay with them for a week, given that they will provide accommodation, a full-time live-in nanny is what they need. Little Ones’ live-in nannies are highly experienced childcarers who could work for 24 hours if required. On the other hand, full-time live-out nannies could offer the same quality childcare support but don’t necessarily have to live in with the family. Both nanny positions work for 5 to 6 days a week, 10 to 12 hours per day with babysitting sessions that may or may not be included in their salary. Of course, the rate will be higher if the family will request longer hours of service. Live-in and live-out nannies could come to the family’s occasional travel.

These nannies’ duties include, but are not limited to, taking care of the children’s welfare, keeping them safe and comfortable at all times, preparing healthy meals for them, arranging playdates and other social activities,  informing the parents of their development. They are also responsible for all relative light housekeeping such as ensuring the children’s bedrooms and playroom clean and tidy, and washing and ironing the children’s clothes.

If you need assistance for less than 40 hours per week, Little Ones could give you a part-time nanny who can practically look after your children for a brief period, ideally one to four days per week, 10 to 12 hours per day or less. They have similar tasks for fewer hours but this type of nanny promises the same competence so the family wouldn’t have to worry about their capabilities as they are experienced with children of all ages.

Most of the common tasks for part-time nannies are planning extracurricular activities for the children, homework assistance, bringing the children to parks and other recreations, meal preparation, teaching them interesting skills that would make them entertained, shopping for the children’s things, driving the children if possible, and keeping the parents informed of the children’s progress..

After-school nanny, a position similar to a part-time position, is intended to look after the children in the afternoon, or after class hours. They are perfect for parents who work full-time or do business travels and would like someone to accompany their children and keep them entertained whilst they are away. These nannies typically take care of school-aged children from 4 years old and above.

Little Ones’ au pairs are usually foreign students who took the opportunity to study in the UK and finds a family to work for on a part-time basis. Their main role is to help the children, especially with their school runs. The au pair’s job is to assist the children in getting ready in the morning, dropping them off and picking them up from school, preparing snacks and meals for them, playdates if time will permit them to, and bath and bed routine.

Au pairs are not fully-trained nannies but they do have different childcaring backgrounds so they will only be able to take care of children over 3 years of age.

Aside from childminding, Little Ones have a type of nanny who also provides the cleaning and housekeeping services. A nanny housekeeper will have to look after the children and do all nursery duties whilst making sure that the family will have a clean and well-organised home to live in. Little Ones’ nanny housekeeper is responsible for a sole charged care of the children and housekeeping duties including cooking, laundry, ironing, cleaning, vacuuming, organising cupboards and general household maintenance.
